If you've ever wondered what your favorite band would sound like playing inside a shipping container full of aluminum cans Bogarts is your place

Back in the day Phil's records gave away Soundgarden tickets with stunning regularity, and JFC they were horrible (I love their studio music, though).  Maybe it was the venue?  We called them Noisegarden, but that didn't stop us from going two or three times.

Saw some pretty good shows back in the 80s at Bogarts.  BB King on my 21st birthday I will never forget.

Probably a combination of both.

Saw a few different acts there in different genres and the sound was uniformly terrible.

No. Does that make a difference?

I think it does, makes the tortilla a little "softer" and melts the cheese. I don't have sour cream in it though, although I don't think it would do anything to it?

man people do love to complain, while i agree bogarts will never be known for its acustic greatness, there is something special beeing a teenager and getting to see a bad you love for $15-20, with the bands van out back, no insane lines, no wild ass security, no stale arena  detachment, be 2 feet from the stage if you want. 1,000 great memories at that place. Caddy's too. another dump that fueled my love for music and events.

Ripley's, Top Cats, SGH, hell even Sudsy's had better sound :D  Amazing that Bogarts is the only one that survived.

Company I worked for in high school, installed the stage lighting and sound system at Reflections. Worked lighting and sound for several of the acts that came through there. Ended up doing summer break "tours" with Allman Brothers, Seatrain, and Cheech and Chong, because of that place. Now it's just an empty lot ūüėě

Worked a few shows at Kings Island with the same company. Did a couple "mini" tours with Brownsville Station and Redbone from those gigs.

They recently tore down The Mad Frog.

Saw that.. Kinda too bad, I guess before it was Mad Frog (and well before my time) it was a different music venue that hosted a lot of the old school local jazz & blues artists.

Frog was a decent college dive.  Think the best time I had there was when a friend was playing some rave thing in the basement.  It was ok but one or more of the historically black frats from UC were throwing an event in the upstairs/main room that was incredible, had that old school house party vibe.  Only time I ever saw the place wall-to-wall packed.

The apartments upstairs were huge but slummy.  Doubt there are many (any?) other venues around UC where a random person can rent the place out for DIY events like that. A pox on whatever cookie-cutter student condo shitbox replaces it.

Back in my days it was Cory's.  Blues joint.  I remember seeing H-Bomb Ferguson for the first time there.  He was a trip!

That's the spot.  From reading about it that place must have been something.

Used to hang around with one of H-Bomb's (apparently many many) kids.

Years ago someone sent me athe recipe for Cincy chili (said she dated the owner of the resteraunt). No idea if this is the real deal:

1lb chuck,ground fine.

2 med onions ,chopped fine

2 cloves garlic minced..

1 cup tomato sauce..

2tablespoons ketchup...

1 cup water.

1 tblspoon red wine vinegar..

1 tblspoon chili powder.

1 tblspoon paprika..1 teaspoon black pepper...

1 teaspoon honey.

1/2 oz unsweetend chocolate grated..

1/2 teaspoon's of the following.. ground cumin,tumeric,marjoram,allspice,.cinnamon.

1/4 teaspoon of the following..nutmeg,,ground cloves,mace,ground coriander,ground caradamon,

1/2 crumbled bay leaf and 1 teaspoon salt

Salt a large cast iron skillet..turn heat to medium add meat, onions and garlic,,cook till meat is brown.Add tomato sauce, ketchup, water and vinegar. As mixture starts to boil add everything else.Adjust spices to taste, adding more salt as needed to perk up.  For a sweeter chili flavor add more cinnamon, cloves or mace...for a "sweatier "chili add more tumeric and cumin....for more "bang"cardamom..and unsweetened choclate for more "body"..  Cover and simmer for 1 hour,,add additional tomato juice if getting to dry.  To assemble ....bottom layer is always spagetti,,thickest you can find..a type called perciatelli is like a long thin macaroni and makes a good spagetti base to hold up the chili..next layer is chili..then add a sparse layer of heated red kidney beans..then a  thin layer of raw onions ( to taste,,try vandallia onions)then blanket your creation with a fluffy layer of Wisconsin cheddar cheese..do not skimp on the cheese.....the secret ingredient to make this chili is to stand out side your house    naked ( preferably in a snow storm)...while the chili cooks... all the while swinging a raw chicken in a circle over your head.....Trust me,,you will have plenty of cops show up to help you eat this chili...")  this recipe should serve 4....  enjoy!

I made it once, guess its an acquired taste¬†¬†ūü§®
