The plan and the players

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_oGEDBZnU6LESfPLyD8apeXSKI-OJ4Z8IWYd7YcnAsM/edit?usp=sharing

QB-Nothing, maybe bring back McCarron after his Battlehawks tenure

RB-Cut Mixon but likely bring him back. Lots of names on the list. I'd obviously love Barkley but not at his price.

I assume they will cut Mixon and then feel out the market. If I am honest I can be talked into anyone but Mattison.

Group A: Henry-Pollard-Barkley-Swift-Jacobs

Group B: Moss

Group C Gibson

Group D Dillon-Singletary-Foreman-Edwards-Mattison-Ekeler

WR-I'd sign a vet for the slot. The draft is deep but I think you can get a good deal on a slot guy

Three layers here:

Long term starter

Darnell Mooney

Flyer with high upside

Paris Campbell

Veteran on league minimum

Jamal Agnew

Deonte Harty

Scotty Miller

Braxton Berrios

Tight End

Long term Starter with upside

Fant

Short term starter 2-3 years settles the position

Henry

Everett

1 year starter where you could easily draft a TE early still

Jonnu Smith-A pretty good fit with range to stretch the field still

Logan Thomas-Played QB for Taylor

Hayden Hurst

Young flyer who would be starting for first time.

Parkinson

OL

Center if you wanted to upgrade....I don't

James-Raiders

Cushenberry-Ex Burrow C

Biadasz-Cowboys

Tackles

Starters where maybe you don't draft one early

Onwenu

Eluemonor

Shorter term Starters

Nijman

Fant

Wynn

Fleming

Flyer on a starter who could be long-term but is probably a bust

Becton

Nose Tackles-1 in FA, I want Reader back but don't expect it

Davis

Tart

Jenkins-Raiders

Jones-Bears

Defensive Tackles-Would be nice to get one in FA

Jones-Bills

Roach-Saints

Rankins-Texas

Joseph-Day-49ers

Kinlaw-49ers

Autry-Titans

Safeties and Corners-Too many to name. You want a fringe starter who is a veteran at both spots. They will probably wait until after the first few days and see what happens when the dust settles.

I love Alohi Gillman.

Again your work is insanely excellent you should work for the Bengals and they should pay you!

Honestly, Fant doesn’t do it for me. His pro career has been meh. He’s got raw talent but really hasn’t ever put it together, and I’m doubtful as to whether he ever will.

To be fair on Fant, he played in a crap offense in Denver and then a mediocre one that had DK, Lockett and eventually JSN on the outside in Seattle.  You're not looking to replace many targets here and I think he's excellent with the ball in his hands after the catch.  Much better than what the Bengals currently have and have had since Burrow has been here.

Bengals should try to sign a no-doubt, quality 4 year starter at either RT or NT. Then sign a vet as a bridge to a rookie at the other. We should just pay Hunter Henry or Gerald Everett their 6 mil along with re-signing Sample, Hudson, and Wilcox if they're cheap.

We're not going to pay up for Simmons or Howard but adding at least 1 vet in the secondary is needed.

It looks like Mixon is going to be cut, which is the right decision. We don't need to sign a vet RB, get someone younger.

We should re-sign Irwin and our backup LBs. Also a backup IOL guy or two.

Bengals have plenty of money to sign vets and upgrade a couple positions before the draft. Then we could take the best players each round without having to fill immediate needs.

If they made a big splash in FA right away and went after a top guy who is that?

I see really 2 options

RT-Onwenu

TE-Fant

Maybe Barkley?

Cushenberry is interesting

Owenu  4 yr..54 mil..13.5 per....

Smith... 1 yr .7.5 per

Or..........2 yr..12 mil....

Per .Spotrac..

I think we are sleeping on Hudson. His snaps to catch numbers were very high. Much higher than any FA in the class.

Agree..

He and Sample stay .

Wilcox or open spot left.

The best breakdown of the team needs.

Absolutely 5 star stuff there.

James Rapien said someone reached out to him and said Tyron Smith wont play RT.

He wont be the guy then.

I assumed not, Also assume Trent Brown wont..but he's played lots or RT and is 31 shortly. He should probably be included somewhere.

Also leaving off Curtis Samuel whom I assume makes a bigger contract. If not he fits very well in the slot.

True. The Bengals gave OBj their word he could stay at LT where he believes he's honoring a promise he made to his late father. It was such a deal breaker for him he left KC for less money because of it. So Zac will continue to abide by that agreement.

Right tackle. Can’t take a glaring obvious need into the draft and not sure you can count on a rookie to line up across from Watt/Garrett week 1.

Id be shocked if they weren’t thinking the same way.

Both DT and RT. I think they'll get both in FA... not that they won't look in the draft, just thinking they want vets in both spots. Still think Reader is the guy at DT, but could see them taking a shot at another, less expensive vet - like Tartt.

I agree with the logic....But RT is the position most likely to have a stud at 18. So many Tackles in this draft

Be that as it may; however some body with at least a modicum of experienced quality is a “right now” need.

What position do you have to get in FA? As in what can't wait until the draft?

Biggest current needs are starters at RT, NT, TE, WR3 plus maybe CB or FS.

This draft is definitely deeper on the offensive side than defense. But it has some DT and CB prospects.

I don't see a free agent RT who is a substantial upgrade from Jonah and who the Bengals are willing to pay. So I think we are looking for a short term vet for coverage and the long term solution in the draft.

For NT, there are veteran options in free agency, maybe including bringing back Reader. Likewise at TE and WR3 and CB and S.

IMO comp picks aren't worth worrying about but if the Bengals disagree, they may limit themselves to players who have been cut so they can get a 4th rounder for Jonah if he gets a rich contract somewhere.
