*** [RD 1] Bengals Select ~ AMARIUS MIMS, OT ***

Recommended Posts

He's so smooth in his back pedal on passing downs and kicks his step out like someone who is 230, not 350 lbs. He has the gracefulness of a ballerina, almost.

Of course, that means he's not a mauler in the running game, but in this offense, the pass pro is way more important anyway. Give me a dancing bear with light feet over a bulldozer that gets Burrow drilled because he lacks athleticism on the edge.

Nah he could be a certified killdozer out there if they coach him up right.  He probably needs a year of NFL-grade strength & conditioning program to really start pushing people around.

However.. Looking at the rest of the OL I'm beginning to wonder if Pollack's "wide zone scheme" applies to run blocking.  Have a hard time believing none of them are capable of doing it athletically, least of all Mims.

Just for gits and shiggles, watch the same clip only instead of watching Mims this time

check out Cordell Volson 67 at Left Guard.  See if you change your mind about him.

Eh.. He kinda gets stood up trying to pull, that's not helping them run.

Gesicki & Sample both look a bit lost blocking off the edge for that matter.

Pec injuries are tricky. Billy Price had a tear, so did Wyatt Hubert and Jonah Williams. Price’s was leading up to the draft IIRC but the other two missed the entire year. Season-enders seem pretty commonplace so let’s hope it’s not that.

It's not a tear, it's a strain. He should be fine if he gives it the proper rest.

right but I’ve seen situations where a tear wasn’t the initial diagnosis and then later on, the guy is going on IR and is lost for the season. Not saying it’s that, just that pec injuries are tricky ones. Same with bicep injuries.

I suspect they do an MRI to verify it's not a tear.

Zac Taylor says it's a "very minor injury" but the problem here those lost 3 weeks will likely cost Mims the RT starting job. You can't find a beat writer who didn't believe that Mims was tracking toward starting opening day. Now TBrown has seized the RT job away from Mims, and OL is not a rotational position group. If TBrown can stay healthy (and OBrown as well) Mims could end up getting very little playing time this season. Sure, Mims figures to get in the game in jumbo sets, maybe gets into blowout games late, but he probably will lose more than just the 3 weeks or so with the very minor injury. More importantly. he loses the chance to be the everyday starter at tackle.

Trent Brown has played a full season all of 3 times in his career. There's a very good chance Mims ends up back at RT due to injury if not sooner.

Yeah the worry for RT is if both guys get hurt, but that's going to be worry for any team down to their 3rd string RT.

The way I feel about Mimms getting hurt is 1. It's a minor injury 2. He was ahead of schedule for what we expected when we drafted him.

I suspect that just puts him back to what we thought he was going to be doing when we drafted him. Working his way into being the starter by midseason at worst.

If he stays healthy and plays a full season for the 4th time, then Mims figures to do a whole of watching.

Other than the guys fighting for the last few spots on the roster, you could make the case that losing 3 weeks to a very minor injury could affect Mims more than any other young player on the team. He was so close to being named the RT starter. He had been turning heads all off season even though he's far from a finished product. Now he has to wait and watch as the "tightness" begins practicing at the same time that Mims no longer can.

I learned a long time ago that minor surgery is when they do operation on someone else, not you.

Why are you yelling?

What surgery?

When has Zack ever done what Marvin did and underplay what the injury was?

Sorry…should have gone “plain text” when pasting.

Walton’s quote is not literally applying here…it’s a tongue-in-cheek comment to the statement folks often make about “minor injuries”.

Walton made the comment after having a “minor” arthroscope on his knee (this after having a plethora of varying levels of injuries and surgeries). He was asked whether this “minor surgery” was going to be a problem. Ever the zen quipster, he responded.

Bill Walton was quirky, different..deadhead.

He was also one of the 2 greatest college players ever

Foot problems led to his demise.

Wouldn't take cortisone shots as he knew it was just masking the problem.

He was a sports hero to many..
