Merlot is so cliche. :D And doesn't really go with lobster.

I too am more of a red wine person. I love a good zin, cab, or shiraz, but none of them work well with lobster. Great with steak though.

If I'm just drinking a glass of wine I'm much more likely to drink a red. But if I am having wine with food, what I choose will depend on what I am eating.

I've been told nowadays you can drink whatever kind of wine you want with your food.

This probably varies (re: legality) from state to state but lately I've been ordering wine through amazon. I get much better results than just buying at the supermarket.

Of course you can. But I don't think red wine goes well with lobster. There is a reason for the "traditional" pairings.

Now, a pinot noir with salmon is great, and honestly the only time I drink it.

I find that a large glass of water goes with just about everything, other than desert.....then you just gotta go with milk.

Beers can get as complicated as wine, probably even more so. No, not PBR or Miller, but a good Belgian Ale or a micro-brew. So many flavors, working with so many different situations.

Any beer connoisseurs here?

HEER!!!

But sadly I discovered I am allergic to most of the ingredients, and can't enjoy it anymore. But you are correct about the glory of the brew. I also find being elitist about what you do to pass time or do for fun is just about the silliest thing one can do.

Oh, it was a dangerous, dangerous day for my liver (and my bank account) when they opened up a Yard House at the Red Rock casino 5 minutes from my house...

Good thing it's a short cab ride and there's a hotel attached...

I try not to be an elitist about it. I just enjoy a very good beer. Some beers I drink are so thick you can slice it with a knife. :D I don't drink them regularly, it's expensive and the beer is heavy. My favorite Belgian Ale so far ... Gulden Draak. Favorite micro ... probably Indian Brown Ale by Dogfish Head, but there are more micro brews on my radar I've yet to try.

Munich is, however, on our docket for 2012 considering our new corporate overlords don't see fit to put us out on the street...

Olive Garden's unlimited breadstick policy is simply "Italian generosity" and not an exercise in food waste, the chain's parent company said Monday in defending itself against an investor's complaint.

Starboard Value LP hurled a nearly 300-page report at Darden last week, detailing Olive Garden's faults, like the unlimited breadstick policy, low bar sales and overall profits, and poorly rated pasta dishes, Fortune magazine reported.

The fight, though, goes a little deeper than breadsticks. Starboard owns an 8.8-percent stake in Darden and acts as the company's second-largest investor, Fortune noted. The firm is looking to oust the company's current 12-member board of directors in favor of other Starboard-appointed candidates to improve the chain's economic situation.

Got to say I've consistently found Olive Garden less enjoyable than any fresh pasta from the grocery and even a slightly fancied-up jarred sauce (ie adding sauteed garlic & or some italian sausage, splash of wine, maybe half a tomato, fresh oregano from the garden etc).

 

 

As for beers, this is from Athens & my go-to for a while now.  Not an overly-dry IPA.. I'd call it well-balanced but I love hops.

order water initially, wait 5-10 minutes after you order your food, then ask seperately for your wine.. it almost has to come close together at that point.. or as others mentioned, dont go to ruby tuesdays for lobster and wine... their cheese fires are the bomb though...

 

There it is right there. Any place where you can use the sentence "their cheese fries are the bomb" you probably shouldn't expect too much.
