OT market for Andre Smith forming; ATL resigns Baker, Minn resigns Loadholt, Chi agrees w/Bushrod, Indy w/Cherilus. #Bengals

Do you think Carson will ask for a trade now that the Raiders are horrible?

Seriously him being released might be the best thing for him.

Jets

Cards

Bills

Browns

Jags

he won't get it.  His refusal to take a pay cut is part of the reason they are cutting some of these guys.

Peerman is a pretty good special teams player and could also maybe be a spot starter if BJGE gets hurt. You need at least 3 RBs on the roster, if not 4. If you sign goodson you could feel comfortable going into next year with BJGE-Goodson-Peerman. If you get a RB BPA in the draft then you could carry 4 guys.

I want a proven guy that can run through the tackles, run outside, return kicks, and catch the ball out of the backfield. Goodson doesnt do any of those spectacularly but he can do all 4 pretty decently based on what I can tell. I really like his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, something I really want in 2013. He can also pick up blitzes.

Think of who you would want at RB in a situation where you are down 6 with the ball on your own 20 with 2 minutes to go. BJGE doesnt offer much in that situation and I dont think peerman really would either. Goodson would be the perfect fit though in that type of situation. Can catch dump offs and fast enough to turn them into decent yardage. Would also be a pretty good 3rd down back as well.

Seems there is no point to BJGE then.

I thought Peerman did good in his chances to play.

I thought Herron was ace on special teams and did good in his very limited carries.  I'd go BJGE, Peerman, Herron and a draft pick.  if anything, I'd cut BJGE and get Goodson to replace him.  I just don't like having dudes on the roster who can never be anything more than roster filler.  If Herron and Peerman aren't worthy of even being considered a starter, replace them with someone with higher upside.

I think you are missing the point. Ideally we get away from the days of benson, rudi, dillon getting 25-30 plus carries a day.

If you sign Goodson and dont draft anyone here is how it could break down:

BJGE-probably about 55-60 percent of the carries if he stays healthy. He would also get the majority of the carries in short yardage situations and probably red zone situations too. He would also be relied on pretty heavily in the 4th quarter if we have the lead to wear down the defense, keep the clock running, etc. Give or take around 15-20 carries a game depending on the flow of the game.

Goodson-gets maybe 35-40 percent of the snaps at rb. Maybe about 10 carries a game to spell BJGE. Also in on almost all passing type situations, 3rd down back, 2 min offense, down late in the game and need to score quick etc. Also can return kicks. Averages maybe about 3-4 catches a game out of the backfield and could get as many as 50 catches or so in a season for 400 plus yards if they used him right.

Peerman-can back up both BJGE and Goodson. Could potentially fill either role if needed. If both Goodson adn BJGE stay healthy then peerman gets the majority of his snaps on special teams.

If you end up drafting a guy early, obviously some of this would need to be adjusted.

I think there is only one spot for Peerman and Herron. Most likely it is Peerman and Herron is looking at practice squad again unless someone gets hurt.

If Peerman is your #4 and special teams ace and BJGE is one of your top two, that means we still need another top 2 RB to compete for the starting job with BJGE and a #3 RB, likely a third down specialist who is really good as a receiver.

not surprising.

OT Jake Long will take a physical in St. Louis tomorrow, and the chances he signs there hinge on its results.

Another team pretty much out of the running for Andre.

Are there any other top 10 free agents that havent really been linked to a single team? Its kinda crazy andre hasnt had any visits set up or have many reports of him being linked to anyone.

If I was him Id sign on the dotted line with us tomorrow before his value goes even further down.

I'm not sure I agree were at least wanting to get away from that so much as the (lack of) talent we have is dictating it, you heard Gruden say he wants a game changer, if he gets it I expect we will play said game changer in a similar percentage as Rudi and Ced.

A game changer doesnt have to be someone that carries it 30 times a game though. A game changer could be a guy that any time he touches it has the ability to take it to the house. At least that was my interpretation.

Now if that guy (likely a draft pick and not a guy like goodson) turns out to be a stud RB lesean mccoy, ray rice type, then I could see them giving him a lot of carries (although likely more in 2014, 15).

Not my interpretation at all, I think they want the opposite, a guy that can do that but be in the mold of a Ced or Rudi, or better...

If they got that guy in the draft and he can get the blocking schemes down, no reason not to play him that much RB outside of blocking is one of the quickest transition positions imo

If the "market is being set", then my spidey sense would tell me that Andre and MB are down and dirty in discussions within that market as we speak. That $9mm stuff was a wish...and IMO just a high-end negotiation ceiling to get the conversation started. I am feeling better that he will be staying here, as I figure he will get at least as much as Loadholt, and probably more.

Adam Schefter:  "if a guy is making a visit after a 3-day negotiation period, its to get the deal done.  The negotiations have already taken place prior to free agency opening.  This year, most guys will sign with teams they make their first visit to."

paraphrasing.

more:  "There are no bargains the first few days of free agency."
