Hard Knocks Episode 1

Really?

If I don't swear around my kids, I home school, and most of their social interaction is at church, why would that be a problem?

Home schooled and most social interaction from church? Sounds like a recipe for completely well adjusted kids!

I missed Hard Knocks the first time around, but the HBO crew do a terrific job. I think I would enjoy watching the show even if the Bengals weren't the featured team. I am so glad that Mike Brown and Marvin agreed to do this. I don't care if other good teams share James Harrison's view of Hard Knocks or not, I really don't see a downside to this.

I swear, I watched the part when Mike Brown says Geo walks like a duck then they show Geno walking and he does walk like duck. That makes me laugh so freaking hard hahahhaa

That was funny. He's a bad ass walking duck mofo, can we sign the guy now! Best defensive player I've ever seen on the Bengals.

Hooky, you're my bro and all but this complaining about cursing on an HBO NFL football show on cable that is aired at 10pm is kinda nuts. I often agree with people like you that say things like "Well, if you have to curse then you don't have good command of the language...say something else" applies in many situations, but this is football. Profane language is par for the course once you reach the high school level, let alone the pros. I have an eleven year old boy and there's no way I let him watch this show, let alone take him to an actual NFL game until he's at least a few years older. Too many drunken fans spewing profanity. Including myself. But that's part of why I love going to games. It's not a family sport like baseball positions itself as. It's a fucking gladiator sport for adults, and you should treat it as such, even if your kid is playing the game at his age like mine is.

They are going to learn bad words from their friends at that age anyway, the trick is to get them not to use them around you or being directed at people they are supposed to show respect to (other adults). I just can't imagine saturating my son in an environment that's rife with alcohol and profanity until he's older and I can prep him for it.

We all like Hard Knocks because it's well filmed and is a fairly accurate representation of what goes on behind the scenes, which unfortunately for you, includes tons of blue language. The players are completely used to it by this point. If you want to shelter your son from it for a little longer then don't let him watch it. I'm debating letting my kid watch it anyway as this is his first year playing football and he's liking it. You just have to tell them that sometimes adults use language like this and that you expect that he doesn't repeat it.

This is HBO, it's cable TV and they are allowed to cuss all they want. You on the other hand have the option of not watching and/or not letting your kids watch it. You don't get to get all pissy because something you want to watch has cussing in it. You either watch it or you don't. It's that simple. I'd also like to add that if you're such a great parent then your kids seeing that kind of stuff on TV shouldn't affect them one bit. It's like Louis CK talking about gay marriage. People say "How am I supposed to explain this to my child?" and his answer is "I don't know, it's your fucking kid, why is it anyone else's problem?" If your kid hears language like that then it's your job to teach them about it.

Oh, and before any puritans go off on me let me say "go fuck yourself". I have over 700 videos on YouTube and you'll be hard pressed to find me talking like that in any of my videos. I don't cuss in my videos because I know young kids are watching, but that is my choice. I choose not to do it in my own videos. What others do in theirs is entirely up to them, that includes HBO. What you choose to let your child watch is entirely up to you. I don't care if you lock them in the basement until they're adults or if it's 80's porn night on the 52in every Wednesday. That is your call, not mine. But please don't even attempt to censor what I want to watch.

There is no swearing on the HBO website (edited version), ...just watch it from the web.
