Now we are cooking with gasoline......WR

1-Chase is back and due for an extension

2-Higgins is up for a big contract

3-Boyd is probably gone

4-Irwin is maybe an RFA or UFA.....I can't tell. Spotrac has him as RFA, Over the cap UFA. Regardless he is probably back. Irwin could be off to Tennessee. It wouldn't surprise me if Callahan steals some of our fringe offense guys to help ease his offensive install.

5-Jones and Yoshi are both back after flashing some but not enough to be counted on for much

6-Jackson-Pryor and Lassiter are all interesting and could seize an end-of-the-roster spot with a good camp

Last year I was certain Hurst-Perrine and Bell would be back and Pratt would be gone. Each offseason I tend to foreclose on what will happen in an area and not be open to outside thoughts. This year I am digging in at WR. In a deep WR draft class I don't think we should draft one. Despite the absolute success of last year's class. I also am not really looking at outside WR free agents because I think Higgins is back.

Here is how I have it. I think they feel burned by Bates and will shoot for a long-term deal with Higgins. I think they love Irwin and he can hedge things in the slot. I think they really like Yoshi and Jones but can't count on them yet. Jones is in the slot Yoshi is outside.

WR1-Chase-Irwin-Jackson

WR2-Higgins on Franchise or Extension-Yoshi-Lassiter

Slot-FREE AGENT-Jones-Pryor

I don't see a place for a rookie.

In the slot, I would take the method I use in fantasy football. I like to spend in one position so I can go light on numbers and then throw a bunch of flyers at another position. Quality at one spot, quantity at another. If we have Chase and Higgins outside....we can find a slot starter through numbers. I would love to leverage the desire to play with Burrow to get some free agents with upside. We love young guys who were former high picks. I'd sign Pariss Campbell for a small non guaranteed deal, Add Scott Miller, an ohio guy who is still young and pair them with Irwin and Jones at the slot. I think one will claim the spots.

Some thoughts

1-Samuel would be nice, Former OSU guy who is probably too pricy

2-McKenzie is interesting. Made league minimum last year....may have killed a bald eagle.....so that's a negative

3-Scotty Miller is a former BGSU Falcon with great speed. Could likely be had for league minimum with lots of upside still at just 27

4-Nelson Agholar is 31 but sometimes still good, if he came cheap there is some sort of veteran offset as well

5-Jamal Agnew is one of my favorites every year and isn't getting a ton of play in Jacksonville

6-Westbrook-Ikine-Just 27 and some decent stats but not great speed

7-Watkins-Ok but not special with the eagles. Only 26 with great speed

8-Berrios-Out of favor in Miami, has a weird Instagram thing going on, could be ok

9-Darnell Mooney-He was who I wanted before I started digging, probably too costly here but just 27 and a decent playmaker

10-Parris Campbell-Love this idea. Didn't do anything at NYG but solid 2 years ago in Indy.  He is only 27 as well.

Thanks for this. Charlie needs to get stronger but I’m still bullish on him, both as an outside threat and in the slot. Yoshi was a nice surprise and I like Irwin too… and the younger PS guys might have something.

I wouldn’t be shocked if they pulled someone off the on sale rack to play some slot. Would love to see Boyd back but it’s a remote possibility as he’s looking for a decent last payday and it’s not gonna happen here, unless there’s a small FA market for him.

Love the "sales rack" imagery.  I am bullish on Charlie too and if I remember correctly he played way more outside at Purdue than you would think. The other thing I didn't mention is that they may want to play Chase more and more in the slot.

Stanley Morgan probably comes back as well. He was coached by Walters in college and we haven't added any of the veterans from the practice squad.

If you use the Bates model, the Bengals would tag Tee this year and then also draft his replacement (Bryan Thomas Jr?) in Rd 1 ... The same as they did by tagging Bates and then drafting Dax for his eventual replacement to learn under him for a year.

I'm low on Charlie as a WR ... but high on him as a KR and PR.

I think Chase, Tee, and Yoshi make a good big 3 for this year's SB run - assuming no tag and trade.

I don't see any FA WRs worth getting, so if Tee is traded they need to draft at least 2 WR to fill his void.

If they were to tag and trade Tee I'd want Tennessee Rd1..pick 7.

Titans need him and Bengals could reap a big-time rookie for it .

Fuaga, Alt  Odunze Newton ....

Damn near whoever.

They could take Alt at 7 and Thomas at 18 - RT/WR ... or Odunze at 7 and Guyton/Mims at 18 - WR/RT.

Lots of good options and 2 guys on reasonable contracts for 4 years with future 5th year options.

No way in hell they’re getting the #7 overall pick in the draft for Tee. That’s not even close to being based in reality.

Yeah, but there are many ways to even out the exchange and potentially make it palatable to each team.  Such as: we swap 1st-round picks and 2nd-round picks and they give us their 3rd-round pick…or, more preferably, we swap 1st-round picks and they give us their 2nd-round pick.

if we want to get something for Tee, it’ll just take some creativity.

Which I find interesting considering Tee's stat line vs whichever line of straight zeroes posted by any WR pick that might come off the board in the top 10.  He's only 25 and would be the immediate WR1 on all but a handful of teams. Not potential, not in the right system, not when he learns to beat press coverage or a route tree or "gets up to NFL speed".  Proven production on a SB team that would immediately elevate any franchise he lands with.

But sure, why give up a magic draft bean for that?

Depends on the offer.

Bengals missed their chance to fleece the Titans last year. They won't give up pick 7 for Tee. Last year they were begging us to trade our first round pick to them so they could take Levis. We could have had their 2nd and 3rd last year plus their 2nd this year. We wouldn't have Murphy but could have had Dawand Jones and Darnell Washington plus a good player with their early 2nd in 2024.

In the context of not being worth a 7th overall pick, which is kind of ridiculous when you think about it.  Some of these GMs would rather play a scratch-off ticket.

Yeah..

They could trade 1sts and cough up a

3rd..

I would think Callahan wants to get Tee.

I value him more than getting any type of high draft pick for Browning.

If they draft a WR in the first round I will shoot somebody (probably myself). If they tag and trade Tee I'd do my best to resign Boyd and maybe go WR in the 5th or later. We df=rafted Jones and Yoshi for a reason, lets see what they have first before replacing them.

What they have…are later rounds “let’s see” types. The same type as going after another 5th round pick.

Of course, they don’t jettison either after one season. But, so far, one is a part of first year on IR type with possible good return skills…and the other an occasional good catch variety…but not consistent go-to.

Neither are Tee…or even Boyd…at this point. This will be the season for them to show something of value or become JAG’s

And if we leave the 3rd WR spot open (while tagging Tee) it gives them more snaps to see if we need to address both the WR2 and WR3 spots next year.

February 20: Franchise Tag date

This date is the first point that teams can re-sign or offer franchise tag offers to eligible players. The Franchise Tag is a one-year deal based on an average salary for a respective position.

At which time you can pencil Tee Higgins in for $21,665,000.
