CINCINNATI -- Contract talks between the Cincinnati Bengals and Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Green have picked up Thursday, with a possible extension coming before the Bengals travel to Oakland on Friday for Sunday's season opener, according to a team source.

Another team source told ESPN earlier this week that the franchise would leave open a window for negotiations through the end of this week. If a deal were not reached before Sunday's game, then the team planned to close down negotiations until the offseason so as to prevent the possibility of Green being distracted during the regular season.

It has only been a matter of time for Green's second deal to be formalized after similar receivers signed lofty extensions earlier this summer. Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas and Julio Jones inked deals that paid them in the ballpark of $70 million across the next five years. Each also signed for guarantees in the $43-$47 million range. Green has been expected to sign a deal comparable to those.

Like Jones, Green was a 2011 first-round draft pick. He was claimed two spots ahead of Jones at No. 4 overall.

Green has had more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first four seasons. He's also just 98 catches shy of having the most receptions through the first five years of a career in league history.

After dealing with a series of injuries that caused him to miss parts of six games, Green called 2014 a "disappointment." He's eager to stay healthy this season, and to perform even better.
