Arkansas Bengal
Bengals, A.J. Green closing in on new contract extension Coley Harvey, ESPN Staff Writer CINCINNATI -- Contract talks between the Cincinnati Bengals and Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Green have picked up Thursday, with a possible extension coming before the Bengals travel to Oakland on Friday for Sunday's season opener, according to a team source. Another team source told ESPN earlier this week that the franchise would leave open a window for negotiations through the end of this week. If a deal were not reached before Sunday's game, then the team planned to close down negotiations until the offseason so as to prevent the possibility of Green being distracted during the regular season. It has only been a matter of time for Green's second deal to be formalized after similar receivers signed lofty extensions earlier this summer. Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas and Julio Jones inked deals that paid them in the ballpark of $70 million across the next five years. Each also signed for guarantees in the $43-$47 million range. Green has been expected to sign a deal comparable to those. Like Jones, Green was a 2011 first-round draft pick. He was claimed two spots ahead of Jones at No. 4 overall. Green has had more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first four seasons. He's also just 98 catches shy of having the most receptions through the first five years of a career in league history. After dealing with a series of injuries that caused him to miss parts of six games, Green called 2014 a "disappointment." He's eager to stay healthy this season, and to perform even better. http://espn.go.com/blog/cincinnati-bengals/post/_/id/18909/bengals-aj-green-contract-extension-closing-in

Arkansas Bengal
Bengals and A.J. Green are talking, but they’re not close Posted by Michael David Smith on September 10, 2015, 4:19 PM EDT Getty Images The next receiver in line for a big contract is Cincinnati’s A.J. Green. But at the moment it doesn’t look like that big contract is coming soon. A league source tells PFT that although the two sides are talking, they’re currently not close to coming to an agreement on a long-term contract extension. The biggest issue is that Green, as you’d expect for a star player, wants his contract to include significant fully guaranteed money. But the Bengals typically won’t fully guarantee money beyond the first year of any contract. The two sides need to find a way around that impasse before a deal will get done. Three receivers have signed big new contracts in the last couple months: Julio Jones in Atlanta, Dez Bryant in Dallas and Demaryius Thomas in Denver. Green wants to make more than all of them. He still might. But it’s not happening yet. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/09/10/bengals-and-a-j-green-are-talking-but-theyre-not-close/

Everything else I've seen is that it's close and they're pushing hard. Likely down to guaranteed money dispersalc over the contract.

LostInDaJungle
Green has a severe lack of leverage, he's playing out this year, and he can easily be franchised next year. That's a long time to go getting paid on a week-to-week basis.Contract talks always see-saw over guarantees and bonuses. Guys always want what the last comparable player got. This doesn't mean the Bengals don't want to guarantee money even if they prefer to pay up front instead of "buy" players on credit. Green isn't greedy for wanting what a comparable player got. This is just the normal back-and-forth of how contracts get done.Remember, Katie stops doing business after opening day. This is a ploy by his agent. If AJ isn't signed before they head to the airport tomorrow, he'll get signed in 2016.It should be taken as a good sign that the deal is being talked about and AJ wants to stay in Cincy enough to have his agent make an idiot of himself. They know Florio and crew aren't real journalists, and think "ethics" is a racist way to refer to African Americans. Anonymous sources are never to be trusted. What "League Source"? There's probably 2-3 people in PBS who actually know how the contract talks are going, and the Brown Family isn't going to talk to the media... So it's Green, or his agent. oldschooler
Three days before the Cincinnati Bengals open the 2015 season in Oakland, and just over 24 hours before the club's deadline for getting contract extensions finalized, it seemed like A.J. Green and the team were on the verge of agreeing to a multi-year extension for the 27-year-old wide receiver.Shortly after the Bengals concluded practice on Thursday, negotiations between the team and Green's agent, Ben Dogra, intensified, and word began to spread among local and national media that the two sides were close to striking a deal. The Enquirer has learned from several league sources the Bengals have reached the annual market value set by the signings of Dallas' Dez Bryant ($14 million), Denver's Demayrius Thomas ($14 million) and Atlanta's Julio Jones ($14.25 million). But, as The Enquirer reported in July, a potential sticking point in the negotiation could be in how Green's guaranteed money is not only structured, but how much of it there is.With the team scheduled to fly to California early Friday evening, the two sides continue to work to keep Green in Cincinnati for the long term. The club has a recent history of signing its homegrown stars, but this negotiation has dragged out a bit longer than those in the recent past.Green has said he would play out this year under his fifth-year rookie option at $10.176 million and the team would be prepared to franchise tag him for next year, which would give them until July 15, 2016, to work out an extension. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/nfl/bengals/2015/09/10/cincinnati-bengals-aj-green-contract-extension-update/72031152/

BengalFanInTO
The Bengals have a pretty solid track record of signing their skills players that put asses in the seats. For that matter, they have re-signed the vast majority of their in-their-prime high level talent over the years. JJoe is really the only exception that stands out in recent memory along with maybe Justin Smith and Eric Steinbach (if you put them in that category). There's no way AJ leaves Cincinnati. This deal will get done, it's just a matter of when. I personally think something in the Bryant/Thomas area is more than a fair contract, We shall see.
