I think it would have been worth a 4th round pick to get Shawn of the Dead Williams off the field and pair Ha Ha up with Bates. Both young and we would have been solid there for a number of years to come. I *think* I read that he was in the last year of his rookie deal, so he's going into a contract year, and that's why they were willing to part with him. But I wholeheartedly agree with you - he would have been an instant upgrade.

Andy gets rid of the ball quicker than anyone not named Brady & has gotten better at chucking them out of bounds or into the turf when no one is open. Think this is one of those misleading stats like the win % when the RB gets more than 20 carries or Betty White being undefeated in heavyweight bouts. The OL is still bad. He definitely gets it out quick. I would venture to say most in the top do. Love the 4.8 yds a carry from mixon.

SouthPaw
The 5-3 Bengals are in the first-half playoffs as the AFC’s second Wild Card. Here are the Bengals.com mid-season award winners and what they have to do to get them into the real deal: MVP: QB Andy Dalton Never mind that he’s learned a new offense so seamlessly over the off-season that the Bengals are sixth in scoring after they were 24th in 2016 and 26th in 2017. Never mind that he didn’t have tight end Tyler Eifert, running back Giovani Bernard and wide receiver John Ross together for less than half of the first half and his 17 touchdown passes are behind only Patrick Mahomes and Andrew Luck. Never mind that for the sixth time in his eight seasons he’s got them in the thick of the play-off picture when you sit down for Thanksgiving and at .590 he’s got the sixth-best winning percentage among quarterbacks since 2011. (Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Alex Smith, Russell Wilson, Ben Roethlisberger.) Forget all that. He gets our MVP vote for his four game-winning drives that have kept this season going behind a new offensive line that had to play with a new center five quarters into the season, as well as compensating for his missing weapons. As every Cincy school kids knows, it could very easily be five game-winning drives but it was snuffed out in 63 seconds by Big Ben’s game-winner. WHAT HE HAS TO DO: He’ll probably need one or two more of those game-winning drives on the road for the Bengals to win the AFC North. He’s got two this year and 14 of his 24 during his career have come on the road, the most on the road of any of the six QBs that have the most game-winning drives since 2011. Note the away games in the second half. Nov. 18 in Baltimore, Dec. 9 in Los Angeles and circle the finale in Pittsburgh on Dec. 30. But a good start is making sure the Saints’ Drew Brees doesn’t tie him and get his 14th road game-winner to start it off on Nov. 11 at Paul Brown Stadium. Pretty eye opening about Andy. |High School Harry|
https://www.cincyjungle.com/2018/11/2/18057032/nfl-free-agents-2018-kony-ealy-aaron-ripkowski-bengals The Bengals are enjoying their week off, but they’re also keeping tabs on potential free agent additions. With Carl Lawson done for the year, the Bengals worked out several pass-rushers this week, the most notable being defensive Kony Ealy. Howard Balzer@HBalzer721 Bengals tryouts reported: DEs Kony Ealy, Ryan Russell; LBs Kasim Edebali, Tyrone Holmes, Aaron Wallace; TE Ben Koyack; FBs Aaron Ripkowski, Shane Smith. 6:17 PM - Oct 31, 2018 Ealy, a former second-round pick of the Panthers, has 15 career sacks in 62 games with the Panthers and Jets. He spent his first three years in Carolina before being waived and claimed by New York last year, where he recorded one sack, nine pass deflections and 14 tackles in 15 games. Defensive end Ryan Russell is in his fourth NFL season after originally being a fifth-round pick of the Cowboys in 2015. After one year in Dallas, he was waived and claimed by the Buccaneers, where he recorded three sacks and 21 tackles and three sacks in 22 games over the last two seasons. Aaron Ripkowski was a starting fullback for the Packers before being released this year. The Bengals have not had a fullback/h-back this year after cutting Ryan Hewitt before the season. Shane Smith was a starting fullback for the Giants in 2017 and made the roster this year before being cut after making two appearances. Linebacker Kasim Edebali is a career reserve who has appeared in 61 career games with the Saints, Broncos and Lions. He has 55 tackles and eight sacks in his career. Aaron Wallace is another linebacker who’s spent most of his career coming off the bench in 13 career games over the past three seasons with the Titans, making 17 total tackles. Tyrone Holmes is a reserve linebacker who’s appeared in 15 games with the Chiefs over the last two seasons while making nine tackles. Finally, tight end Ben Koyack is a third-year player who appeared in 30 games (10 starts) over the last two seasons with the Jaguars, making 24 grabs for 199 yards and one score. He was waived this year with an injury settlement, so it appears he’s now healthy enough to sign with a team. The Bengals certainly could use more depth at defensive end, linebacker and tight end, so any one of these players could be signed in the future. As for the fullbacks, it’s unclear if the Bengals want to get back to having one to boost their ground game, which has been doing well in recent weeks, and Joe Mixon is typically at his best out of the shotgun without a fullback. HavePityPlease
The only positives I see with Green going down are: 1. They might run it more 2. Lazor might feel more free to set up opposing defenses with quick, short stuff and spreads (which IMO is Andy's strength). Of course, removing one of the top 5 or so receivers in the game can only hurt you in the long run....

Mixon is not utilized out of the backfield as much as Gio or a guy like Kamara, Conner or Gurley. We have seen this before. 2014 season we lost Eifert, Jones and Green and played the Colts in the Wildcard with Sanu as our #1 receiver and Jeremy Hill who had just had a great rookie season. That was our offense. We had 155 yards passing and scored 10 points.

Well, my point was that I don't think many teams that could likely sustain a high level of success with the amount of injuries we've experienced. Without doing research, I'd bet dollars to donuts no team is as absolutely decimated as we are. If the defense doesn't somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat and we don't see a concerted effort to place this offense squarely on Mr. Mixon's shoulders, I think we see a rapid and immediate downward spiral. Probably not all that profound, I know, but, of course I'll still watch to see what transpires.
|Bunghole|
Why in the world don't we go after Bruce Irvin and Dez Bryant? Bryant had like 800 yards receiving last season. He's not a chump out there, and this whole attitude thing with him seems overblown to me. Plus, it's not like we can't ask Pollock what kind of a guy he really is since they shared the sideline in Dallas. I think the real issue with Dez is that he doesn't want to play anywhere but Dallas and Dallas doesn't want him back, so he's just sitting out. He turned down a pretty good offer from the Rats, like $7 million a year for 3 years.
