Maybe it's been asked and answered but:

Just where is this franchise going to get any extra money (short of the vet minimum levels) to spend on outside FA's?

I keep hearing "cut this guy/cut that guy...save money.." but for who are you spending it on? All I keep seeing is Higgins, The the rest is "saving for X (Chase)".

Of course, all is dependent on what His Holiness is going to get.

Basically, it's back to "cut this guy/cut that guy and get a bunch of draftee-level contracts".

We have 50 million in cap space. For the most part these extensions will be in future years.

We're about 34 mil under the 2023 cap at the moment. If we cut Mixon and Collins that would add another 13 mil.

If we extend Burrow (or Higgins, Wilson, etc) we'd likely keep their rookie salaries for those years of the new contract so their cap numbers for 2023 would jump by 1/5 (or more if the extension is less than 4 years) of their signing bonus.

So if we sign Burrow to a 8 year extension (10 years in total) with a 100 mil signing bonus, his cap number for 2023 would go up by 20 mil as signing bonus can only be prorated a maximum of 5 years. Of course there are contract structures which pay bonuses over the course of the deal and they can be fully guaranteed at signing but don't appear on the cap until paid.

So, it still is just "cut this guy/cut that guy" in order to stay in the area code of being able to do anything in FA?

Numbers can be moved around like a shell game, but it's still not looking rosy.

The annual poor-mouthing from Hobson is just part of the off-season now. Signed 3 OL starters without much difficulty despite only having 35 cents available per team math

Oh but…now everything plus that 35 cents is going to be going into one pocket.

The Chiefs have s SB champion team because they have Mahomes but as importantly they keep the Oline strong for him to excell .

Yes defense is important but teams are now looking to out score their opponents.

It starts with a top QB and Oline strength.

We shoul look  closely at this concept to challenge for a SB win..

Which is the ultimate crime in the overthrow of integrity for the modern NFL. They sacrificed the game itself—under the mirage of “player safety”—in order to create a money-making circus sideshow.

I consider myself fortunate to have experienced the age of the names Doomsday, Steel Curtain, Purple People Eaters, No-Name, etc….as no one will ever see this aspect of the total game again.

Chris-We hardly knew ya!

Literally. We claimed him on waivers during the playoffs but those aren't processed until after the Super Bowl. So he never had a practice with the team and likely wasn't even allowed into the facility to say hi until the waiver award was official.
