Jason
This is mainly for us older folks who can remember XVI. Why? I would change XVI because I think Ken Anderson would be in the HoF if we had won.
Jamie_B
Boomer wins for us, because I'm not old enough to remember Anderson. But am old enough to remember Boomer
Cricket
LVI, because I don’t want to live in the past like stealer fans. 😎
Dautcom08
LVI. I was minus 4 years old for the first and 3 years old for the second. I also watched LVI with both of my kids and what an even better memory that would have been even at their young age.
claptonrocks
If Pete Johnson runs in back of Munoz they win it.. They ran in back of Montoya and Hacksaw Reynolds stuffed it.. Lose.... Biggest disappointment for me..

That and I think the overall trajectory for the franchise would have been better had they won that game. 1981 will always be my favorite Bengals season because it was so unexpected and it happened at at time when sports were everything to me. The team had shown glimmers of hope during the awful seasons of 1978-80, especially in 1980. But my hope for that '81 team was 9-7 and a wildcard spot. Even after all these years, it's still surreal that the Bengals played in the 16th and 23rd Super Bowls.

It was the right call and the hole was/would have been there if David Verser had, for some God-only-knows-why reason had not gone into motion when not supposed to and shifted the D to the spot Pete was supposed to run and walk in to the end zone. And wonder why Kenny did not call time out when he saw it.
texbengal
They were all disappointing but for me, XXIII. Billups catches that INT, it's game over. And I thought SF was the better team that year. It would have been a great win and would've lessened Montana's legacy too.
A Rock
I chose XXIII, as that was the first one I was a fan for. Any of them would've been fantastic of course. I grew up despising the Niners (for obvious reasons) and that would've been fantastic. As it was so long ago, you can never know the butterfly effect it may have had on the franchise. By that criteria, winning XVI would've been even better I suppose. I believe (but certainly can't prove, lol) that there is an immeasurable "playing with house money" element to teams who win championships. Quarterbacks in particular. Brady was fearless on the biggest stages, took big risks with the rock, definitely put the ball in harms way, and definitely prevailed more often than not. Now Kermit's starting to fill that role. MUST STOP HIM. MUST WIN A RING. While Burrow's young. I love this team and will continue to follow win or lose, but after 39 years of fandom, there's only one thing that truly interests me now. 1

After the 4th down stop, the defense forced a 3 and out, and the offense scored a TD on the next possession. They got the TD, it just took a little more time. 1

MANY (and maybe most) Bengal fans erroneously “remember” the INT drop happening late in the 4th quarter. Strange how the human mind works. 🤪 1
texbengal
1 hour ago, Jason said: That INT drop was in the 3rd quarter, so not game over. Actually no, it was early in the 4th quarter and the Bengals were up 13-6. He drops that and SF scores a TD on the very next play and with the PAT they tie the game at 13. Could SF have come back and won? Sure, we will never know but if he makes that INT, SF doesn’t score and the Bengals get the ball back, up a TD. As the game went, Bengals went up 16-13 and then SF goes on the long drive and scores with seconds left.
Cricket
2 minutes ago, texbengal said: As the game went, Bengals went up 16-13 and then SF… On that drive to put the Bengals up 16-13, it looked to me that once in FG range, Sam Wyche played it overly safe instead of going for a TD. That was later verified with NFL Films’ account of that Super Bowl and the words spoken by Sam therein. 😔

Few remember (but I do because it happened in front of my eyes), that SF began that final drive on their own 9. They were flagged for holding and it dropped them back. ANY semblance of defense on that possession, and the Bengals win. They wilted horribly at the worst time.
AmishBengalFan
XXIII because I was there. When Breech kicked the game-winning FG with 3-something left in 4Q, I was in heaven. When the kickoff was called back due to SF holding at the 18, forcing them to go 91 yards, I knew the game was in the bag.... but that crossing route to Rice killed us, putting them in FG range (IIRC), and Taylor with 34 seconds left iced it. SFF fans were buying Doug and me beers after that. Their concensus was one of "phew! we got lucky!" and "you guys are great! see you next year in Nawlins!" And we never got back. So, yeah, XXIII for me. Stop that drive, or catch that INT in the 3rd to prevent them from leveling-up, or Timmy doesn't get hurt, or Boomer shows up.... we win that game and begin our own 3-4 year run. Our entire history swivels around that single game, and we were so damn close..... 1

Cricket
Certainly the most recent one. Otherwise it would be very likely that Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and others would have been drafted by other teams [Butterfly Effect]. 🤓
KA14_HOF
This is tough. I've been a Bengals fan for 50+ years, so I'd be very happy to have any one of these back. But I have to go with XVI. We could've won XXIII and LVI, but we should've won XVI. We were in full self-destruct mode in the first half, and just fell apart for that 3rd quarter goal line stand by SF. If we win that game, not only is Ken Anderson in the Hall of Fame, but Ken Riley gets to give his own HOF induction speech. I'm also optimistic that Burrow will mitigate the sting of losing LVI by finally bringing a Lombardi to Cincinnati. And BTW, thank you to the mods for letting me join. 2

|SF2|
The Boomer one. I honestly think that loss (should have won) started us down the path of the lost 90s. 12 years of horror.
