So... You don't feel that he was able to modify the scheme to fit the players we had? I mean, sure, Jesse Bates can make all of those Cover 1 calls look better... His scheme only works with pro-bowl level players?

Bates isn't the only guy they lost. And even so, the guys they replaced them with are not good. That's a talent evaluation problem, not a coaching problem.

Would not be mad at this at all.

However, I still think we have a scouting staff size problem.

The scouting staff size is why the position coaches & coordinators are more heavily involved in the drafting/free agent  process than most other NFL teams. That's why it is absolutely vital to get the best possible coaches on both sides of the ball. With the Bengals coaches have more responsibilities than with other NFL teams. If those coaches are heavily involved with FA scouting & prospect player evals, they have to be replaced if too many players brought in aren't working out.

It's also why I think we are having issues. Let coaches coach, not all of them or even a lot of them, are going to be good talent evaluators

For me I thnk if you can bring in Salah, that would go a long way to be able to add DJ Reed, who I want as our CB1

I don't think that a CB1 will be in the discussion. Not at that level. Think Awuzie and Hilton. 2nd contract guys on the rise.

Probably, but I think that's a mistake, specifically for the CB position. We have a lot of young guys in the locker room already; I think they would benefit from a Vet.

I think adding a Vet to the DB room and getting younger on the Dline should be the goal.

welp, i will always be the first to admit when i am wrong.

holy shit.

if they fuckup this hire the burrow years will be a waste.

had a guy you know can get you to the superbowl on defense, the defense GOT US THERE, so lets get some great coaches on staff and go get some hardware..

if they did these firings and go just on a job search with no plan, that is terrifying, hopefully they have someone theyve been in talks with behind the scenes.

Thanks, Griever.

Here are 2 particularly damning paragraphs from the article:

Many have pointed to Cincinnati letting high-end veterans such as Jessie Bates III and DJ Reader as pivotal reasons for the defense's downfall. Losing elite players is never ideal, but the Bengals' plan to replace them were just as bad. Anarumo was always heavily involved in both free agency and NFL Draft plans for the unit.

Anarumo had input on free agent whiffs such as Nick Scott, Geno Stone, and Sheldon Rankins. Eight top-100 draft picks were spent on defense from 2022-2024. Out of Dax Hill, Cam Taylor-Britt, Zach Carter, Myles Murphy, DJ Turner II, Jordan Battle, Kris Jenkins Jr., and McKinnley Jackson, how many of them can be considered building blocks for the future? Maybe a couple? That's not good enough.

Our coaches have a significant say in the draft, we all know that, so they have to share part of the blame when drafted players dont work out. That is part of the deal with our team, you get more input then with other teams but that comes with accountability (sometimes lol)
