I would genuinely like to see a link to some sort of source or report that last years deal was intimated as a bridge to a long term deal because I haven't seen that anywhere. From what I see, he was coming off a bit of a down year with only 8 sacks, the FO gave him a $15M extension which is more than generous for that type of year, and he's mad that he signed it after now having a career year. Went through the Beast and read about everyone...here is my list of guys I like. Sorry for its own thread but its really long and I didn't want to take up space in the other one. Also, I think its' a good reference. Tons of team captains, and other info there. I put my strategy in there as well. Definitely not locked into just this list and love opinions. I ignored the great list from BlackJesus about who visited which I shouldn't have. I will have to look it over and compare and add. I will put visits in italics when I get to that. Likely tomorrow. In parentheses is where I would draft them....some will go way higher. QB Burrow 29 Browning 26 Woodside 25 Strategy: We will likely just be looking for a camp body. A 4th arm to help. A few guys stand out but I assume the UDFA addition will be someone I have never heard of. We tend to like productive college QBs. Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland(U): Undersized but filled up the stat sheet. Team captain. Left-handed. Big Tens all-time leading passer. 39 Starts. Darren Grainger, GA State(U): Great mobility. Passing 57 TDs-18 ints, 2,130; Career rushing yards, 19 TDs. I love backup QBs with mobility. Carter Bradley, UAB(U): Gus Bradley’s son, Toledo Xfer, Late bloomer with an ACL injury. RB Moss 26 Brown 27 Williams 25 Evans 25 Strategy: A RB after round 4. We may not have a definitive answer at RB but we do have two guys we want to get carries this year. There is no reason to add a third early. If you do you’re essentially eating two years of their contract. Take one next year and it’s just one year. The year after none. The RB position is one where I have no problem always taking a player late as a flyer and special teamer. Targeted guys who would be ok with primary role being teams but have upside. Jaylen Wright-Trey Benson-Marshawn Lloyd, all are great but probably going too high for the investment we want. Will Shipley, Clemson (5): is nice but a complimentary back, where we want a complete back or bruiser. Tyrone Tracey, Purdue(5): Former WR could provide multiple looks should he fall a bit. Emani Bailey, TCU(5): He is my target. Terrible RAS score and combine, great stats and ability. Hits the hole and gets yardage every time. Looks like he is shot out of a cannon when he gets the handoff. Hits the hole and sneaks through cracks. Caught all 25 of his targets last year. Only 366 career carries so lots of tread left. Dylan Laube, New Hampshire(5): Kick return could be back in vogue this year with the changes. Laube had 2 KR for Tds and 2 PR for Tds. Team Captain. 68 catches his senior year and 7 TDs through the air. Nearly perfect end of the bench contributor. Dillon Johnson, Washington(5): Noted impact on the culture at Washington, started all 14 games after transferring from Miss St. George Holani, Boise St(5): Loved his tape as well. He is one of my favorites behind Bailey. Was always pushing the pile forward and finding yards. Cody Schrader, Missouri(7): Another one of those end of the bench personalities that could be great. Started out at Truman St then walked on to Missouri, started 24 games and rushed for 1600+ yards and 14 TDs as a SR. Won’t be dynamic but probably a STs guy and solid backup. Keilan Robinson, Texas(U): Undersized but a 4.42 40, KR experience. Limited offensive production. WR Chase 26 Iosivas 27 Pryor WR Higgins 25 Jackson WR Irwin 25 Jones 27 Lassiter Outside WR Strategy: I think they are set at outside WR for 2024 and I also think that rookie WRs are making immediate impacts so there is no reason to draft one highly. There are a few inside-outside guys I do like. Also always have an eye on developmental guys for teams. Ladd McConkey, Georgia(2): He probably goes higher, and I really like him. Good production on an offense that likes to run. 21 starts but not actually a ton of snaps. Team captain his final year. Great route runner to go with a 4.39 40. Undersized. Ja’Lynn Polk, Washington(3): Played inside and out, which we will like, has good size, which we will like, personality should fit the team. Coaches loved him. Luke McCaffrey, Rice(6): Barely played WR, just 2 years after playing QB and had highlight reel catches. 4.46 40. Team captain. Lots of upside and meat on the bone. Former Nebraska QB. Xavier Johnson, OSU(U): Cincy native, Just 26 career catches and a 4.63 40…..but has special teams written all over him. Team captain and 14 tackles there. Guy you would want in camp and on practice squad. Will be 25 in May so maybe not too much development on the offensive side. Slot receivers Strategy: I like Charlie Jones, I think there are still veterans available who could get starters snaps (Jamal Agnew, Scotty Miller) but I don’t mind drafting someone here to compete. Jones can play inside and out. Ricky Pearsall-Florida (3): 4.41 40, Can play inside and out and noted for his work ethic and toughness Malik Washington-Va (3): One of my favorite players in the draft. Undersized but great speed and production in his only year at Virginia. Runs like a RB with the ball in his hands. Was named captain as a xfer. Kick returner as well. Jacob Cowing-Arizona (4): Cowing is very slight but ran a 4.38 40, and had 3 seasons in a row of great production. Route running and acceleration make him special. Played for Jedd Fisch who coached with Rams. Jalen McMillan-Wash (6): Third of the Washington receivers, might fit us the best. Very solid slot WR with great size and speed. Anthony Gould-Oregon St (6): Another big play undersized guy with great speed. Big time PR who can help with new kickoff rule. Tulu Griffin-Miss St (7): Great returner, undersized with great speed Mason Tipton-Yale (U): Small with great speed, 4.33 TE Sample 27 Gesicki 25 Hudson 25 Strategy: I am all over the place here. I really want a complete TE. I would take an elite playmaker like Bowers or Sanders, even Sinnott. Stover and Wiley are the most complete IMO. You probably already have your top 3 guys or you might not even have your starter. It’s possible that we run way more 12 and if so we might be looking for a backup to Sample. Brock Bowers-Ga 1): Don’t need to write anything here. He is an elite receiving option who we would love to have. One of the four elite guys in this draft. Ja’Tavion Sanders-Texas (2): Pass catching tight end, can make big plays. Would be surprised if he is there when we pick in 2nd Cade Stover-OSU (3): I am higher on Stover than most. Like his blocking a lot. He is transitioning from LB. 2 time Team captain at OSU. I think he won’t be a huge star but will be well rounded. Also played a ton of special teams. Jared Wiley-TCU (3): Jared Wiley has flown up the board for me. Another team captain and he flashes on tape. Great size and 4.62 40. Tanner McLachlan-Arizona (4): Battles for every yard, not all around polished but a good economical addition to the room Ben Sinnott-K St (4): Great athlete, played more of an Hback role but was a dynamic receiver, Tip Reiman-Illinois (U)/AJ Barner-Mich (U): Both of these guys will go much higher than what I have them. I like them both but they really just replicate Sample who we signed long term. Mason Pline-Furman (U): Pline is a former basketball player who should be an ideal redzone threat for Burrow should he develop. Extremely raw having played football for just 3 years in FCS Thomas Yassmin-Utah (U): Former Aussie Rugby player who is new to football, still had 7 TDs over his 18 games at Utah the last two seasons. Developmental athlete for the practice squad Zach Heins-S Dak St (U): I think we will run more 12 this year and will be looking for a backup blocking TE on the practice squad again. Heins is 6-6, 259 and fits that role. He wasn’t absent of pass catching either with 18 career TDs….however he ran a 5.0 40 at his combine. LT Brown 27 Carman 25 LG Volson 26 Ford 25 C Karras 25 Hill 25 Gilliam RG Cappa 26 Kirkland RT Brown 25 Smith 25 Cochran 25 Center Strategy: Karras is 30 and has 1 year left on his contract. Hill isn’t a safe bet and he has 1 year as well. Need new blood here. Focus on versatility on the inside and lots of starts. Jackson Powers-Johnson-Oregon (2): Experience at 3 interior spots. Just 21 so ascending as well. Zach Frazier-WVU (2): Started at C and LG Tanor Bortolini-Wisconsin (3): Starts at C, LG and RG, and RT. Great depth and an eventual starter Beaux Limmer-Arkansas (3): 41 career starts at LG, RG and C, Hunter Nourzad-Penn St (4): 41 career starts RT, C, LG and RG Jacob Monk-Duke (6): 2 time team captain, starts at RG, RT and C. 58 career starts, 31 on bench press Dylan McMahon-NC State (6): 44 starts at RG, OC and LG Guard Strategy: Possibly getting someone who can play LG and swing to other positions. Depth piece. Graham Barton-Duke (2): Barton probably goes round 1. And probably to the Stealers. Started 34 games at LT and 5 at OC. Outside chance we take him at 18 if everyone else is gone. Seems like a can’t miss. Cooper Beebe-K St (2): 2 time team captain with 48 career starts at LG, LT and RT. Has put in practice time at C Zach Zinter-Michigan (4): 42 career starts all at RG but has practiced at center. Team captain. Sataoa Laumea-Utah (4): BP 26 and starts at RG and RT. Another guy who practiced at center Mason McCormick-SD St (5): 3 time team captaion 57 starts at LG, 32 BP. Matt Goncalves-Pitt (5): Captain who played both RT and LT but projects to guard. Tackle Strategy:Longterm highend starter. There are so many. I do believe its ok to get a developmental guy in rd 2. I also want a developmental guy at the end of the draft. Smith-Carman-Hill and Ford are all FAs at the end of the year and I’d be happy to see Carman-Hill and Smith get unseated. Joe Alt-ND (1): Elite size, 33 starts at LT. Probably top ten. Olu Fashanu-Penn St (1) LT: Another guy with elite size who played only at LT JC Latham-Alabama (1) RT: 27 starts at RT. Another mammoth. I have seen where he might go top 5-10. I didn’t love his video but everyone I trust does. There is a chance we trade up for him. Taliese Fuaga-Oregon St (1): 25 starts at RT, Team captain. Might be the perfect fit and fall to 18th. Amarius Mims-Georgia (1): Only 8 starts but showed well in all of them. Mammoth and great athlete. Moves really well. Even if its way less snaps…maybe 40% need a body in there. DT T'Vondre Sweat-Texas (3): I was watching tape of someone playing Texas and I thought Sweat jumped off the board. His weight and head are questions but his upside is all pro IMO. Khristian Boyd-N Iowa (5): Boyd was a captain and put up 38 on the bench press. Also had 43 tackles and I love targeting DTs who put up good tackle numbers. Trey Hendrickson is a power rusher that left many games with back issues and is 29. Trade him. He will never get to where he was last year. He doesn't have pass rush moves. He has a motor.

I went to Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse in Columbus last night for a company function. I had never been there before, but now I understand why the Bengals choose that restaurant to wine and dine free agents. Even though we had a limited menu, everything I ate was amazing!

Pretty easy to tell what the Bengals are most focused on with this draft. A whopping 15 of their 19 listed top 30 visits were with offensive/defensive linemen. Here's another fun stat: the last time the Bengals weren't top 5 in pass attempt % they went to the Super Bowl. As I've said before a few times myself, he's been expected to hard-carry the offense with a plodder of a RB whose biggest contribution to the team was smiles.
