yes they are, but this contract is deserved. Terry is a great player, I just hope he gets a QB one of these years.

Let's be real.. If you're passing up exclusive NFL-level massage therapists in favor of randos off Instagram you're definitely, 100% not actually going to them for a massage.

"Here sign this NDA first"

There is no room for doubt as to his intentions here.  None.

Here's a creative punishment I just thought of ...

Ban him from the post-season for the next 5 years. That way Cleveland is stuck paying 50 million a year for a regular season qb only. The perfect unsatisfying purgatory.

But if you don’t make the postseason, is it really a punishment? 😂😉

This wouldn't be enough in my view ... Basically 8 games with a 10 million dollar fine.

LOLWUT? A retroactive suspension because the Texans didn't know what to do with him? That's so absurd I can see it happening.

Yeah, this isn't the first time I've seen/heard using last year as part of his "punishment".  WTF does last year have to do with it?

sounds about right

Bengals play the Browns week 8 and 14 so no reprieve at all if that is the case.

I mentioned this to a friend of mine who is a Browns fan and he basically said the same thing. :)

6:45 Friday, and nothing from New York.

Still nothing definitive as to Baker, so even money the Browns are bracing for the full of ‘22 in the tank. If the Union says nothing of substance, then it’s done.

Maybe I’m not appreciating the full PR, but what really does the NFL gain by not keeping it at least a full season? There is literally no viable use for Deshaun Watson to be a “star QB” for ratings/advertising. Without a long expulsion—where there could conceivably be the needed time for John Q Public to forget about this deviant’s escapades—trying to shoehorn him back into ‘22, will not end well for The Shield.

Cynical take is that they've seen fans threaten to boycott about this or that over the past few years but come kickoff all that is forgotten.  I think they're betting this is the same & that aside from some boos when Watson takes the field nobody will really much care & it won't actually cost them anything...  and they're probably right.

Real talk, is anyone here not going to watch the Bengals 2022 season based on what happens with Deshaun Watson?

I wonder if the some of the other owners are putting pressure on Goodell to give Watson a long suspension?  Not so much to punish Deshaun but to punish the Haslem's and the Browns.  Many owners were pissed that the Browns opened the floodgates of fully guaranteed contracts.  Watson might be the first but down the road are WR's, LT's, TE's and DE's going to want the same thing as QB's are getting?  Remember the rule that all the guaranteed money goes to an escrow account at signing.  How happy will be some of these owners to start tying up hundreds of million dollars into escrow accounts to maintain a roster?

I (honestly) don't know if counseling would fix him. There is something wrong upstairs.

You are talking about a man other men have probably worshipped since he was 8 years old.  We probably all know a few. The supreme athlete other father’s wish their son was who got away with almost anything growing up.

Guys who could pretty much do whatever they wanted and rarely face punishment.  My daughter had one in her High School class. Stud QB and baseball player who stole money and credit cards from his own teammates for years. Finally got caught using one at a Walmart.

His punishment for multiple felonies?  Wasn’t allowed to play in their playoff game.  His adult worshippers felt that was punishment enough.

My son got caught selling a bottle of Bacardi to his classmates off school grounds after his “friend” narced him out.  The police escorted my son, in handcuffs, down the crowded hallways during class change (intentional) and charged him. Had to go to court, pay a fine and lost his license for a year.

Watson has done almost anything he ever wanted with no repercussions.  He isn’t even going to lose his $45 mil signing bonus because the league can’t take it away.  Worse, a multi-billion dollar franchise with over 40% of its fans women doesn’t seem to care.

I don’t think that is the issue. Fans won’t abandon their own teams over what a stupid organization like the Browns do.

The real threat is sponsors leaving due to pressure by women’s groups which I could fully understand.  Also, a Congressional Dog and Pony show is a real possibility.

That’s a bingo.

The league needs time in order to put as much distance between the news cycles as possible.

Although, at least here on Main Street goes, I haven’t heard a lot of public anger over this guy. A few NFL wonks here and there, but everyday people, not a lot. I attribute that to the real lack of media interest in the story. Never to belittle the very real harms that sexual abuse causes, but the interest levels the public has in them—from sports celebs at least—is only lukewarm. The media goes where the interest/outrage=money stories are.

The farther the Watson stories get from todays news, the better the NFL will like it. That is why at least a year ban will be their floor and not their ceiling.

truth and not only do they seem to not car, a majority of them take up for him.. it's just disgusting and I would expect anything different from that fanbase...

The possibility of this probably keeps Goodell up at night.  That is absolutely the last thing they want.  Not so much for player conduct, but the actions of the owners.  Watson is doing a pretty good job of helping bury the stories around Dan Snyder & the NFL's knowledge of that behavior.

I have a nephew that lives in Cleveland.  He and his family (teenage boy, twin 5-yr-old boy and girl) recently had a horrible time trying to get home from Florida (Thanks mostly to Southwest Airlines).  They ended up flying to Pittsburg and a neighbor dove there to pick them up.  His wife posted an extended rant about the whole ordeal on Facebook.

Of course, I had to add a comment:

“…and then you get home only to discover that Deshaun Watson is STILL slated to be your opening day starter. 😎
