3 first round picks!  Anybody outside Cuyahoga County knew that was a disaster from the start. Even in a world where he's a great QB and also not a serial rapist that deal makes no fucking sense.  But he's not, and he is, and while the former is maybe slightly debatable in a starry-eyed "he's got potential" sort of way, the second part was common knowledge and should've been an immediate deal breaker or at the very least grounds for a serious, bargain basement discount with a very large escape hatch option allowing the team to bail out of any contract at their discretion.. so WTF were they possibly thinking?

Kinda feel like if they don't beat the Browns now I'm not sure they ever will.

lol, yea, a loss to cleveland would be tough without some extreme mitigating circumstance.

Please Lou - PLEASE - don't let Groper Cleveland resurrect his career this weekend.

defense has held teams to 16 and 7 points total in games lou had even MOST of his players playing, not even healthy. probably nothing anything lou is doing wrong.

It is hard to believe that the Browns players themselves think Rub n Tug gives them 'the best chance to win' other than the best chance to win the first overall pick in the next draft

yea and touchy feely has been barking and trashing his linemen and teammates on the field, i saw part of last game and OL guy got beat and he was yelling at him, like 3-4 sentences of it, OL guy didnt look happy. he is in a state of throwing his hands up after every failed play, his fault or not, it sure FEELS like he is a locker room cancer from hell, AND sucks, and everyone involved knows they are fucked and stuck together for 2.5 more years AND no chance of a trade.

never seen such a horrible decision until i saw then restructure his money to fuck themselves even worse later..

they doubled down with the House Deed in vegas.

The only out is if he's actually convicted of something or the NFL suspends him, and expecting Goodell to suddenly crack down on sex offenders is one hell of a long shot. Not going to happen without criminal charges.

yea, and the NFL isnt that likely to bail out the browns, if it was the cowboys, or something, id bet theyd have already saved their ass from that deal with a ban or suspension, but definetly not the browns

You may be forgetting how spectacularly well Watson played for the Texans. He certainly posted franchise QB numbers in Houston, and most analysts rated him as a top 5 QB in the league the last year he played. Here are Watson's career stats:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/3122840/deshaun-watson

There were quite a few teams willing to give up 3 first round draft picks, including what became his Final Four teams- Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans, Cleveland. Then Cleveland was suddenly eliminated, which made the Browns panic. The only way they could land Watson's services was to do the unthinkable - give him the first ever 100 percent guaranteed contract. The compensation wasn't the stumbling block for the other finalists, it was the shocking contract.

If an organization was willing to ignore all of the off the field allegations - there were quite a few besides Cleveland ready to do so - then they all felt like they would be getting a rare franchise QB even if it was a PR nightmare. The statistical dropoff from Houston to Cleveland might be the steepest plummet in NFL history. It's like his QB game just fell off a cliff. But seriously, who was predicting that at the time. Sure, other teams realize now that they dodged a bullet with Watson, but they certainly didn't think so when he suddenly became available in a trade.

Next time Watson gets an ouchie, Browns should put him on IR and excuse him from attendance at practice or games. Winston isn't very good either and can QB them to a top 5 pick. They need a cheap QB and that means a rookie, even an early picked one. They may or may not be able to turn that rookie into a decent NFL QB but Watson will still be around for 2025. If the Browns want to spread the cap hits from Watson's dead money over the most years, they could cut him early in 2026 with a post-June 1 designation and split the remaining money between 2026 and 2027. If their 2025 rookie QB is a hit, then Watson's contract will be off their cap just in time for an extension for the new guy. If the rookie flops, he'll just be another name on the jersey. Isn't it up to about 30 names now?

If Browns want to get out from under the Watson contract asap, they can release him in early 2025 with post-June 1 designation. They can carry over 44 mil (plus probably another 12 or so with Cooper traded) and offset most of the cap hit for 2025. But 2026 will sting.

Browns trade Amri Cooper to Bills for 2025 3rd rounder.

Cooper takes the place of departed Diggs as top receiver for Allen.

Browns are bailing on the season

Amari Cooper is leading the NFL in drops this season with 9.

he played wildly well statistically, and that was for 1 singlseason, and they lost either 12 or 14 games still. many attributed the numbers to always being losing and having to throw constantly and getting a bunch of cheap yards at the ends of blowout games. i dont recall well enough to judge that deep.

All the videos from X don't show for me now on the laptop or phone. I see the text of the tweets, but not any video. Wonder if I am the only one. It started a day or so ago.

Sorry BJ, I haven't encountered these issues...yet. I am using a phone running Android 13, I did just recently update my browser in the Play Store though.

Yes, Houston lost 12 games Watson's final year, but 8 of the losses were within one score. Watson was the one thing that kept Houston competitive in those games. If I am supposed to blame Watson for Houston's bad record his final year there, then I would have to also blame Burrow for Cincinnati's bad record this year so far. And of course I don't, That would be absurd.
