“Monday Night Football” tonight will not feature Hank Williams Jr. singing, “Are you ready for some football?”

ESPN has decided to pull “All My Rowdy Friends,” the theme song written and performed by Williams, because of comments Williams made today on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” comparing President Barack Obama and Adolf Hitler. (Watch it after the jump.)

“While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize he is closely linked to our company through the opening to ‘Monday Night Football,’ ” ESPN said in a statement. “We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.”

Williams, who has indicated that he may be interested in running for a U.S. Senate seat as a Republican from Tennessee, called the “golf summit” this summer between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner “one of the biggest political mistakes ever” and added: “It would be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu.”

What he said was idiotic and what he represents is moronic. He has little to no talent and his music sucks. He is famous because his daddy was a pioneer. Do the intro song on a rotational basis with other musicians. There is no way it could be less entertaining.

Nope, rotating it with other musicians won't work because it's Hank Jr.'s song to begin with. I'm not sure if some of you younger people know that the original song is "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" that was originally written and recorded by Hank Jr. I think it was in the early to mid 80's when it came out, like 1984 or 1985. Hank worked up alternate lyrics for Monday Night Football so if Hank goes, the song goes. I doubt they bought the rights to it from him.

Hey, what about "Family Tradition"? That's a staple at every bar in the rural Midwest that has karaoke! That's gotta count for something!

Can we get Faith Hill out of the Sunday Night Football opening as well? Both songs annoy me to no end.

As to the remarks of "Bocephus" I think he is an idiot. I am a fiscal conservative so you can guess my opinion of Obama but Hitler comparisons are just as idiotic now as they were when Bush was called Hitler.

If you want to beat them do it with ideas, not ugly rhetoric.

I'll agree with this... all except the get rid of Faith Hill part. Girl is easy on the eyes... liked her better the last two years when she was in short shorts though!

My $0.02.

Had Hank Williams said "Obama reminds me of Hitler" then I would understand all the fuss.

He didn't. He said It's like Hitler and Netanyahu playing golf. He was comparing the polar opposites of Obama and Boehner to the opposites of a Jewish leader and the Jews biggest enemy ever.

This was needlessly blown WAY out of proportion. Anyone who was actually offended by what HW2 said is way too fucking sensitive or just plain stupid.

Hell, as often as I have heard liberals compare Republicans to fascists I'm surprised they didn't think HW2 was comparing Boehner to Hitler.

I thought the same thing at first...and I think that if he had stopped with just that first analogy that would be fine and it could be explained away like that. But he goes on to call Obama the enemy etc etc. He was given a chance to backup from the comparison and he went forward.
