If they don't and they select any of those 3 I'm gonna be hella nervous until the 2nd round to see if we address the O-line at all. I'd be OK with that also, but what I/m afraid of is the Bengals brain-trust (HAH!) won't get off the dollars to sign a Thuney/Williams/Moton type FA. They'll get some 2nd/3rd tier guy and try to sell to the fans they did all they could. Before next season is over Joe is being carted off the field again being patted on the shoulder by whatever shiny new WR Mikey drafted in the first round. Lather, rinse, and repeat in 2022.

February 8, 20214 yr comment_1632001 My biggest offseason OL fear is that they continue under the psychotic delusion that Bobbie Hart is an adequate option as a NFL reserve at RT (much less a starter).
February 8, 20214 yr comment_1632016 The scary thing is Hart wasn't rated that badly by PFF for 2020. We all know he sucks and doesn't belong in the starting lineup but maybe the team disagrees.

At BEST, Hart is a backup and should be paid half what he is making. And if the OL was a strong one, he would be long gone.
February 9, 20214 yr comment_1632036 Here's one I just did on PFF where I did no trades at all - just to see how the board would fall, looked like this: First four taken in the draft where Lawrence, Wilson, Waddle and Chase. Then rest of draft went like this w/ me picking (again, I didn't make any trades): Round 1 Pick 5 overall: Penei Sewell, T, Oregon Round 2 Pick 37 overall: Azeez Ojulari, Edge, Georgia Round 3 Pick 69 overall: Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern Round 4 Pick 110 overall: Jay Tufele, IDL, USC Round 5 Pick 150 overall: Shi Smith, WR, South Carolina Round 6 Pick 191 overall: Sardarius Hutchison, IOL, South Carolina Round 7: Pick 231 overall: Logan Hall, IDL, Houston Round 7: Pick 233 overall: Jacoby Stevens, S, LSU I don't...hate it? Thoughts? Btw, passing on WRs everywhere killed me. In this scenario they better have signed a good WR in FA.

Hart played well towards the end of the season, hopefully a new position coach will help him improve his play.

Especially if the new position coach is with another team. Like Cleveland or Pittsburgh. Tampa Bay would be nice because I would like to see Marsha Brady get her candy ass kicked frequently.

Ojulari would be an interesting pick at a position of need. I love the positions you chose (2 OL, 3 DL/Edge, WR). If we could get Dickerson (C - Ala) in the 3rd that would be great. He’s injury prone, but it’s possible that could be behind him. I think he’ll go in the 2nd, but I’m hoping he falls to the 3rd and we can take advantage. Him and Sewell would be huge (literally) for our line. Instant upgrades regardless where you decide to play them on the line.
February 10, 20214 yr comment_1632056 He's gone by end of 2nd in most mocks now when I run the sims. Even with the knee injury. He would be a candidate if they traded back in 2nd round, maybe? That said, the idea of drafting a guy (even as talented as he seems to be) coming off an ACL in January makes me itchy... I can't recall in that sim if I could have had Creed Humphrey in 3 - he is often there in mocks at this current point in time - but I think if he was I went Newsome because I think that guy is going to be a tremendous NFL corner and was huge value in that spot in what is also pretty much a position of need...

That's the modern NFL draft in a nutshell. Every first round pick is "THE NEXT (insert Hall of Famer)!!!!" If you listen to the talking heads you'd think there'd never been a bust in recorded history.

But your are correct, there is little talk about prospects ability or possible lack of ability to play at the NFL level. The NHL talking heads often call out high drafted players in terms of 'I don't see his skillset projeting to the NHL level" and things of this nature.

Funny as I see that all the time IMHO when watching college highlight videos. Usually it's either a defender arm tackling or shoving down smaller guys (Maualuga @ USC was a poster boy for this) or a WR running nothing but deep routes against slow DB's (guess who?). Then we draft them and seem surprised by their lack of production.
February 10, 20214 yr comment_1632061 Some of the best defenses that this franchise has ever had came with Rey Maualuga starting in the front 7. He obviously couldn't cover but he was nowhere near as bad here as people try to make him out to be. In run game fits, the dude was one of the best hole pluggers of that era.
February 10, 20214 yr comment_1632064 Ray Rice disagrees. Maualuga was notorious for charging into the wrong hole.
February 10, 20214 yr comment_1632068 I didn’t say he was an all pro, I’m just saying he wasn’t as bad here as people try to make him out to be. He was in the middle of some excellent run defenses here and one of the reasons was because of his physicality in the hole. Marv and Zim basically used him as a battering ram here, I’m surprised we haven’t heard about him having CTE issues.

There are two very good linemen at U. of Pitt.. DT Jaylen Twyman ..3 tech rusher.. DE Patrick Jones...a guy who can bring pressure.. Both players have pressure skills the team desperately needs..
