Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase hold-in is one to monitor according to Adam Schefter

This team is preparing for a SB run whether Chase is here or not. So far it's been not.  If I were in the front office, I'd call him or his agent and see just how serious

he is about sitting.  If he says 1000% serious I'd tell him or his agent okay, when I hang up I'm calling the Commanders front office and telling

them to stop fooling around with the 49'ers and Brandon Aiyuk.  Would you rather play with Joe Burrow or Jayden Daniels?  See how he answers

that and go from there!!  If not, it's gonna be a shit show of a distraction!  I have enough confidence in Burrow to do it without Chase.  It might not

be as flashy but who cares.  Surely a combination of Gesicki, Yoshi and Burton et al can replace Chase's production.  Burrow is THE WHEEL, Chase is a

spoke!  Washington has new ownership, new front office, new coaching staff and a rookie QB behind an underwhelming OL which more than likely

equals a top 5 pick in the 2025 draft!  Get what you can from the Washington front office, (1st and 2nd rounder in 2025 would do it for me), and roll on!

Go into 2025 with a lot of extra cap space saved from paying Chase plus 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks.  Use those picks on fixing both

the offensive and defensive lines and possibly a WR or even extend Higgins!  No way I'm even risking or entertaining the idea of that situation blowing

up and Zac Taylor and Joe Burrow having the national media stick a mic in their face every minute of everyday while he sits out!

Already been too much of a distraction through the entire training camp for a guy who is under contract for another 2 years.

We should be talking about Burrow finally working through an entire camp but instead the story is Ja'Marr mad because someone else got a bigger slice of cake & now he doesn't want to wait his turn.

Boo fuckin hoo.

Well at least he let the rest of the team know he's more important than they are, so it wasn't a total waste of time. :ninja:

I have never thought that the front office would announce a contract agreement while he was still holding-in. Just because they didn't want to set a precedent for other players seeking extensions.

However, that doesn't mean a contract extension cannot be announced before the start of the season, especially now that he is a full participant in practice. With the optics now much more to the front office's liking.

CINCINNATI — Ja’Marr Chase took part in practice for the first time this season.

The Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver has been holding in as he negotiates a contract extension with the team and watched every practice — except one he didn’t show up to — from the sideline.

On Sunday, the team’s first practice following the conclusion of the preseason, he rejoined his teammates on the field. He was a full participant and the team expects him to practice all week, league sources told The Athletic. The Bengals also posted a photo on X of Chase at practice.

The practice was not open to the media.

Chase has been sneaking in throwing sessions outside of practice time over the last week, whether in the indoor facility after practice or on the fields before the day’s team work, but this was his first time back in full with everyone.

With exactly two weeks until the opener against the New England Patriots, this gives a long enough runway for Chase ramp up to game shape.

Chase has two years remaining on his rookie contract. The club exercised his fifth-year option for the 2025 season.

Bengals president Mike Brown stated before training camp began the team would “bend over backward” to sign Chase, but this might not be the best time to negotiate. Outside of Joe Burrow last year, whose contract broke every Bengals’ precedent, Cincinnati has never signed a first-round pick to an extension before their fourth season.

Carson was signed to his extension in Dec of his 3rd season. A record breaker.

There's really only 2 possible options of what happened ...

1. The team and him are in contract negotiations and they either asked him to begin practicing while they finalized it or he volunteered to practice while they work out the last parts of it (precedent, optics, etc).

2. Bengals told him there will be no new contract at all, and he caved already and decided to just practice and play for the remaining 1 million in game checks this season and risk the 100+ million bonus if seriously injured.

(I would guess its #1, as I find #2 almost impossible to believe.)

He's guaranteed that $1 million in games checks and $21.9 million next year.  None of that $21.9 million goes away if he's seriously injured so I don't know why

you keep saying he's risking $100 million by playing for $1 million.

Yes, he will get 17 game checks weekly for the remaining million this year and then he will get 22 million next year. So let's call it 23 million.

The Jefferson bonus was 110 million guaranteed, so lets just use that figure. In this case, you are right, he wouldn't be risking 99 million by playing, he would "only" be risking 110-23 = 87 million (assuming he didn't want more guarantees than Jefferson).

I still find that just as hard to believe, despite being 12% less.

Regardless of whether it is option 1 or 2, I am glad to see him practicing, as this team cannot win the Super Bowl this season without him.

But I actually hope they extend him now, as next offseason he will only be more expensive, and they might be able to get him at 35.1 a year now, instead of 40 next year.

I'm glad he's out there too but I'm also glad the Bengals held firm in their decision and didn't cave to him.  I disagree that the Bengals can't win

a SB without Chase. I believe Burrow is that good!  I also disagree that it's going to be MORE expensive to sign him next year as Aiyuk, Lamb and

even Higgins next year,(who'll be the #1 FA WR), won't get more than Jefferson.  In my opinion that's the bar and it isn't going up!  Priority #1 should

be protecting Burrow at all costs!!  Even if it comes down to trading Chase for future draft picks because Browning FOR SURE isn't taking this team to

the SB!  If Burrow has to keep taking the pounding he is season after season he'll be lucky to finish out his current contract and we'll be right back to

the 2019 Bengals team!  I for sure don't want to go there!

The most embarrassing Bengal team

was the year Gary Reasons pulled Dave Shulas  cap over his face to not listen to him.

Ja'Marr does have the option of going to Lloyd’s of London and taking out an insurance policy against serious injury.
