I think we go 3-3 in the division.
I think we go 3-1 vs the NFC west.
Win at least 1 game against the AFC south.
Then beat Buffalo.

the defense better get its shit together... and dalton needs to stop sucking ass...

and most importantly.. the OL needs to actuallyblock defenders so dalton can attempt to stop sucking...

First - preseason games never mean shit. They are over analyzed practices.

Second - A prediction of 8 wins and if the results should match that prediction is a shit ass season for a coach going into 9th season.

Marvin has record 3 or 4 8 wins seasons. Won the division twice.

On rare occasion does 8 wins get a team in the playoffs. Anything less than playoffs is failure for Marvin.

Marvin failing in previous seasons doesn't get to reset the bar of expectations lower based on that failure. It's embarassing that some Bengal fans buy into this.

All too true on more than one point.

I was also thinking that, all things considered, this team is essentially the same team which won the division two seasons ago. It is absolutely the same line ingredients. Same running game...better, on the whole, defense (except Friday night). Much better receivers.

Why everyone seems to think this is just a shit, rebuilding, team, is eluding me.

The franchise QB left in the offseason. That changed everything, including the expectations for this season. If you can't see that you're just being stubborn.

I don't ever think I claimed I wasn't being stubborn. I would happen to agree with you. It's stubborn as hell and that's the way it should be. I think people bending over all of sudden lowering the bar of expectation for a program that the Head Coach just signed off on in January and going into his 9th season is far worse.

They flat told everyone. Their scouting is fine. OK. If that's their true belief then why the fuck should I move off my expectation of continued movement to a Superbowl?

This coach has won 8 games in a season multiple times. Won the division twice. Anything less than advancement in playoffs does nothing to advance this franchise from joke status.

If you want me to lower expectations because everything changed. Well give more changes. Looks like the same program to me.

If your scouting is fine and you don't need to add overhead in player development. Then why is a stubborn attitude expecting playoffs a bad thing?

outside of the QB position, I think this is a more talented team than the team that won the division in 2009.

TE, WR, LB, DL, CB and OL are all deeper positions than they were then. RB/FB is about even. As is safety.

QB is the only position I'd say is worse now than it was then.

The team that won the division 2 years ago won most of its games early by passing the ball. They were 6-2 the first half of the season with a good passing attack and they beat good teams.

Once Henry went down and Smith was basically a non factor, the team was forced to become a run oriented team which resulted in a weak at best .500 club the last 8 games. Those 4 wins came against a 9-7 Pittsburgh team (good win), 5-11 Browns team, 2-14 Detroit team and a 4-12 KC team.

With Henry out and Coles playing like a turd, teams simply took Chad out of the game and blitzed us to death. Caldwell scared nobody. Everyone also figured out Dennis Roland couldn't pass block a tree sloth.

The idea that we did well with a run oriented offense in 2009 is one of the biggest myths in Bengals history. We limped into the playoffs and were one and done against a better (vomits in mouth) Jets team.

If we can't square away the pass blocking this team does nothing this year besides rides Benson to 1600 yards and our record to maybe 6-10.

This is exactly how I feel and we are going in with a easy schedule. Give Gruden sometime and I believe this team will surprise people.

If I could find a casino stupid enough to put the O/U at 8 wins, I would rush to the bank, withdraw all of my savings and take the under.

Look, I hope the Bengals win every single game, and every year my BS prediction is always 16-0 (why not?), but if we are talking realistic, then I would say 5 wins would be a sucessful season.

Disclaimer: I am probably one of the worst gamblers ever, ask the casinos. I know better than to bet on sports. :)
