You can't be a Bengals fan if you don't have some sort of coping mechanism.

To me, Go's point/counterpoint, post-by-post dressing down has become part of the post-game experience. Nobody's spared. You know it's coming, so you just sort of hold your breath and see if you got 1 or both barrels. And if you happen to get agreement, then you're Joker and you've just been made Squad Leader.

Last week at PBS, talking to the friendly redneck sitting next to me, I noticed something about our Running Backs.

Zach Moss is supposed to be our #1 RB, with Chase Brown in on passing downs because he's a better blocker. Yet Brown has more touches, more yards, more targets, more receptions, more recieving yards, and fewer turnovers, with just as many combined TDs as Moss.

So when Moss is in, he's not there to block, not there to run, and he's not there to catch, so I don't understand why he's there.  He -is- good at fumbling, apparently, as he lost the ball in 3Q as we were going in for a score, so instead of up 10-0 we ended up tied 7-7.  But then I saw that Brown fumbled and the ball barely went OOB... followed by a redeeming TD run up the middle from distance to put the game away.

I'm not biased, though I have Brown on my fantasy team.  Well, maybe I am biased a little.

Not -down- on Moss, I'm just more -up- on Brown and would like to see a heavier percentage of the snaps begin to land in his lap... I think he can do more with the opporutunity than Moss can, who can come in to spell Brown every third snap or so.  If we established a bonafide running game, it would slow down the pass rush, give our O-line a better chance of not being exposed, and lead to longer posessions to give our D more rest and downtime.  Everybody wins (except for Moss fantasy owners).

Brown has looked like the starter all year in my eyes, unless he's not physically able to handle the 20ish carries a game they're averaging. Or if he keeps fumbling, obviously.

People speak of their team with great hyperbole and emotion in the heat of the moment during games.  Oddly enough, it’s therapeutic.

I personally consider your “attacks” on many of those posts hours later as both rude and very disingenuous.

But maybe that’s just me.

I appreciate the post, as i figured some people probably didnt enjoy mine, which is why i typically add in addressing my own post is silly, with hindsite, and one that likely no one cares about.

a few things at play here, all probably rooted in some character flaw of mine, but, as a dude who likes sports more than anyone probably should, i enjoy them my way, and everyone has the right to enjoy them thier way, same with music, movies, etc, right?  sports have, for force of health and sanity and age, become something that brings me joy, at most i allow it to bring me a mild amount of sadness and a mild amount of frustration. so thats how i enjoy sports. so when i say shit that PROBABLY very likely sounds crazy fucking rude, like "how do you want this and get that optionion" or "you have no idea what youre talking about" i am probably correct, i often try to slide in "and neither do i" so its not looked at as a personal attack, like BJ, i met him in 2005, ive interacted with him in person 4-5 times, and had a few dozen thousands conversations here, i know BJ well enough to know he doesnt know what scheme we are playing, the roles of the players in that scheme, what the DC or defense saw in the personnel or formation that caused them to play XYZ on defense, a few others as well, like "if they are doubling jamarr just throw to the TEs" sort of thing, like, we can all agree thats all pure rubbish, right? like we arent all sitting in our chase lounges in a bengals thong sipping Natti Lights and think we know more and are better preapred for the game than the professionals, right?

so i think its fair to throw jabs in those cases, BJ knows i love his crazy ass, i dont know Bronx, he got lots of mentions from me yesterday, but id assume he also knows i dont hate him and am not trashing him, and id imagine post-game and emotional downflow he probably realizes some things he said were on the silly side.

ive had plenty of bad takes in my time, we all ahve and still will, and i expect others to call me out when i am so deadset on them and am wrong, and im happy to be wrong and learn from it as a sports fan.

* break for podcast commercial* volson sucks and i was correct about that *end commercial break*

the tone and mood in here as been one of contentious discussion along side civil calm discussion.

i would LOVE to be in the gameday chat, but i need to see everything, i cant be typing and reading, the game is on. i cant multitask like that.

like, a few people (thousands) have called for Taylor and lous firing over and over....

that is, without question, backed by facts, one of the more insane things fans have felt and said.  marvin lewis was here for 600 years without winning a playoff game, taylor and lou took this team to the superbowl, and then to the AFCC game, with reasoning being playcalling and offense, WHILE THEY ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A THREE GAME RUN OF SCORING 100+ points.

i am sorry but i gotta call it what it is. if people can stomp their internet feet and throw e-tantrums calling for some of the most successful coaches in the teams history, i think its fair to say equally outlandish things back to them about it.

i stopped wearing bengals hats and shirts when i travel if they are losing because the small talk people want to have is tough, and i have the flaw of wanting to talk through things and small talk is meant for head knods and agreement, but man do i not wanna talk to the guy at Graeters or Skyline or Larosas about zach taylor needs to go and how cheap mike brown is and thats why chase isnt signed.

cause thats wild ass shit, and my dumb brains wants to talk about it.  maybe its a parenting trait, if my kids headed down a dumb path i wanna stop, talk about why they think or feel that way, and give my thoughts and go from there, had a ton of that as they became teenagers and young men.

But i wanna learn more, know more, understand more. Old friends whose dad was the OC for the bengals, if be able to get on phone calls with himand his dad as he broke down gameplan ideas, the details of the palycalling, reasons for players vs opponents, and thats where i learned the details of the offensive gameplan. hell today on the bengals booth podcast, Zach Taylor said frank pollack came to him with the Brown TD run play, it wasnt one they ran this week ofr the game, but they had run it for the last few games, so it was on the sheet for this weeks options, but frank said the line knew it well enough to run it and it fit the situation perfectly,  thats why frank is the run game coordinator, and it ended up being a game winning play that they didnt have practiced for the week but had done enough to give it a shot..

is there anything more interesting than that? this is why you see coaches high fiving after plays, these dudes pour blood sweat and tears into the gameplans, knowing everyones role and job, the opponents tendencies, and the communication, thats the sports stuff i live for.

people wanna fire frank cause volson sucks, nah man volson just sucks, we as fans have no idea the great contributions staff have all over the game, if guys arent pulling their weight they get fired, so i find the slander of successful coaches to be wild and baseless, and to consider those type things as therapeutic is possibly even more concerning. "i dont like what i see so that guys family should be on the street right now"  what mental disorder might that one be since we are getting therapeutic?

its possible my personality just doesnt mesh with the super emotional knee jerk reaction crowd, watching both my parents die in horrible ways then almost checking out myself last year, im about as even keel as they come, and boy does what happens on a football field not matter what so ever to any of us in the real world. so sometimes i perhaps view the over emotional reactions to things like a screaming toddler in a grocery store. i stare at it, and think "what the fuck" and unlike those situations i say my feelings on it.

im no better than anyone here, no one is required to read or care what i post, PLEASE block or skip my posts as needed. i dont wanna hurt anyones feelings, but if they are sating everyone sucks and is stupid and should be fired and is dumb, they cant really be too sensitive themselves, right?

just my 2,000 cents. i just want to entertain myself and possibly a few others.

Moss = Perine

Brown = Gio Benard

I really would love to have a bruiser Rudi Johnson type of back, but we have bigger needs right now.

well moss is an nfl level starting RB, perine isnt and never was, but i understand the comparison. i think moss is way mbetter perine, and broan is way better gio. but gio could block and i dont thinkbrown can.

if he could block i think he would start. moss has play like 30 snaps at "second LG" this year.

love crosby, he is a psycho, he also seems like a dumbass, which is fine, but traded assets for a guy you have to HEAVILY pay, isnt usually a good value. youd be better off trading up in the first round for the best pass rusher, as them at least you dont have to pay him 25mil a year or whatever these guys get out on the market. he is a monster though. he and trey would e the two white devils on the edge.

he is clearly the more skilled runner, without question, i think its the blocking and likely detailed audibles and variables he is getting bossed around by joe on, it FELLS like every other play joe is telling him something specific and not anyone else.. it feels to me like joe trusts him 10,000% on the offense and covering joes ass. i assume with the youth and inexperience brown isnt in that trust cirlce just yet.

brown is so fucking quick to the gaps though, man dude is a speeding bullet. fun to watch.

Thanks for the context.

It’s an instant reaction thread - so to get a football lecture after the fact comes across as off-putting to me… but whatever. Everyone’s different and as you say, copes in their own way. Not my cup of tea, but if it’s others’, enjoy!

i often see threads or posts i know are a dumpster fire to me and just think "yea im not going in there again" and i just assume people will do that to anything of mine they dont care for. I assume after 20 years everyone had pretty thick skin in here. hopefully no one takes it personally, i can handle people not liking it, hopefully everyone knows nothing is ever personal. except one time, like 15 years ago, weston said i was being a dick to him because my mom has just died, and i was acting out, but it was fully because he was a dick, aside from that i never took anything personally.

still a dumb fucking comment. why do you live like this? who hurt you that this is how your brain is wired?  jones isnt good, but he isnt even bottom 10 in QB's in rating, in completion percentage, etc.

I usually ignore these hindsight posts because, as others said, most if not all these gameday thread comments are stream-of-consciousness, real-time reactions to what just happened, not some exhaustive, fine-grained analysis - so rebutting them as such, or as if they're deeply-held beliefs or grand pronouncements, or projecting or inferring something that was never said is, in your words, fucking dumb.  Example:

Quote

so stop acting like we are super lucky we are palting a community college dropout at QB or something. get a grip.

Who said he was a community college dropout?  It certainly wasn't me.  Does it make more sense to infer this absurd notion or instead assume people are simply holding QBs to an NFL standard?  Does it make more sense to assume someone is truly giving a final analysis of a QB's career, or simply observing how they're playing in the moment?  You set up the strawman anyway to "strengthen" your "argument", so I'll ask you the same question you asked me - "who hurt you?" - because constantly setting up strawmen is incredibly weak, and it says a lot about how your brain is wired.

But I'll answer this.

Jones was absolute shit yesterday.  That has nothing to do with his week-to-week, season-to-season or overall lifetime stats.  He sucked shit.  He was garbage.  Doo-doo.  Ka-ka.  He missed open receivers several times.  He made the wrong read multiple times on RPOs.  He  panicked and bailed multiple times when he didn't need to.  The Bengals defense benefitted greatly from this shit play, so regardless of his QB rating or PFF rating or relative position on the league stat table - he sucked shit.  Yesterday.  In yesterdays' football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hope that helps.

The last few weeks shows what having two quality defensive line starters out then come back have on your defense.  Also shows just how thin O and D line talent is in the NFL.

The best defensive linemen are significantly better than average linemen. Now put a second stringer in there and the drop off can be profound.

Does it really offend ones feelings on the board?

Not really..

You can be perturbed but it's all harmless chatter that's

part of the charm of the board..

If Jenkins and Jackson can develop throughout the season not that they've returned from injury in parallel to having the starters back, the back half of the season defense has the potential to look significantly different.  I'm optimistic.

Well, there are at least 7 pansies on the board.

We do live in a society where people are just looking to be offended by something or another. So this makes sense.

I don’t post here much anymore, joined the board in 2003 when it first started as an offshoot from Thorntons site, but completely agree that every piece of news is posted here by wonderful people (hope they’re not amongst the pansies lol) who take the effort to make this board what it is.  Most notably Griever and Arkansas Bengal.
