dex Posted July 15, 2023 Report Share Posted July 15, 2023 Once Perine signed with Denver, there was almost a guarantee that Mixon would be back for another season after a restructured contract. No way Cincinnati was going to start over from scratch at RB all at once. The Bengals have never done a restructured contract before. I'm guessing they were the last team in the league where that was the case. I had wondered if Cincinnati had lost all restructure contract leverage with Mixon after Taylor saying that he would be back for the new season. Just shows how much Mixon wanted to stay in Cincinnati. Now we have to wonder if a Burrow extension will be the next contract domino to drop. No player is going to just allow their salary to be cut by millions of dollars unless their agent has determined that this outcome is better than the alternative.. His agent basically said that Joe wanted to stay in Cincinnati and try to get a SB ring. That's why he agreed to a significant pay cut...wanting to stay in Cincinnati rather than become another free agent RB trying to find an acceptable deal in an unfriendly market.
